This past 15th of April, Rafael Domingo, president of the Maiestas Foundation, presented his theory of global law before a select audience of intellectuals and jurists at the Law School at Columbia University in New York City, one of most prestigious in the United States.
The lecture was attended by numerous professors from five continents, who were interested in learning more about Rafael Domingo’s new proposals at a time in which the global economic crisis, the preservation of the planet or international terrorism demand a law capable of effectively and timely regulating the issues affecting all humanity.
“The main difference between international law and global law”, Domingo indicated, “is that the former is based on the sovereignty of the State and the latter is based on the dignity of people. Global law is a common law for the humanity, and not only an inter-state or transnational law. And humanity is made up of people, not of States. For that reason, questions affecting all humanity must be solved by humanity and not by the United Nations’ Security Council”.
Throughout his lecture, Rafael Domingo described the form of government for humanity, which he referred to as “Anthroparchy”, and that is based on the principles of universality, solidarity, subsidiarity and horizontality (or democratization). With the Anthroparchy, the President of Maiestas explained, “one tries to avoid humanity becoming a Superstate, or that imperialism and totalitarianism, in any one of their forms, spread widely around the planet”. Therefore, he concluded, “if humanity is not coordinated by a global law, it will end up being governed by powerful cryptocracies, which will serve their own economic interests”.
